Paris

After our short stay in Basel we took the train to Paris. It took us awhile to get to our hostel (even though it turned out we were really close) but eventually we made it and it was pretty nice. We were thrilled to find out we got free breakfast (the best hostel breakfast by far – hot chocolate, juice, granola, cereals, croissant, bread) and our own room with our own bathroom!

It was already around 7:00 pm so we dropped our bags in our room and headed across town to the Eiffel Tower. When we came off the train, we couldn’t see it, but as we rounded a corner it was suddenly right in front of us. It was awesome. It was something you see in so many movies and everyone talks about it and now it was right in front of us. Thus far it didn’t necessarily feel like we were in Paris as we had been on trains – but now it definitely did.

In front of the Eiffel Tower was a huge big screen with thousands of spectators watching the 3rd place world cup match. It has been a lot of fun having the world cup going on during our entire trip. Soccer is so much bigger in Europe and whenever there is a game – there is a lot of energy in the air.

It was getting late so we grabbed a kabob (good but the mustard was too spicy – and they wouldn’t give us more than two napkins) and got on a boat tour down the Seine river.

It started at 10:00 pm and took an hour and gave us (even though we were pretty tired) a good orientation to the city. The best part was seeing the Eiffel Tower lit up and every hour after it gets dark it sparkles with lots of bright white lights.
